"BRCA in a DAY"

We see patients from all over the United States.

We welcome virtual consults. Our office staff can provide you and your family with help finding accommodations or local attractions to enhance your visit.

Taking care of a patient with a BRCA gene mutation is a team effort, but as much as possible we strive to take complexity out of it. At the New York BRCA Center we have always brought together all the specialists for your care to make living with a BRCA mutation as simple as possible.

For some BRCA patients (those who are ready to have surgery) all the risk reduction procedures can be combined in a single operation.

This includes:

1) risk reduction double mastectomy (removal of breast tissue)

2) risk reduction salpingo-oophorectomy (removal of ovaries and   fallopian tubes)

3) breast reconstruction

In patients who choose to undergo a DIEP flap breast reconstruction the removal of ovaries and fallopian tubes can be performed through the DIEP flap access incision, without the need for additional abdominal scars.

Combining procedures is not ideal for every patient. Many patients may choose to undergo surveillance for a period of time, or prefer to stage their treatment to manage their post operative recovery. However, for a subset of patients completing all the surgical stages at once may be a good option.
